LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is in jail, accused of leaving the scene of a crash that injured his child.
It happened on the off ramp of I-75 onto Newtown Pike around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Rodney Agee is facing assault, DUI and leaving the scene of an accident charges following the crash.
Lexington Police say Agee caught a ride with a passerby back to his Georgetown home instead of getting help for the child.
We're told the passerby, Robert Buchanon, offered to take the pair to the hospital. On the way there, Agee asked Buchanon to drop them off at his father's house in Georgetown.
When Agee and his son got out of the car, Buchanon says he noticed the child was bleeding.
"I didn't realize the child was the one that was bleeding," Buchanon said. "It just bothered me that the child didn't want to stay awake ... I thought it could be because it was so late at night. It was like one o'clock in the morning ... you know it was a head injury too and that's something you don't just walk away from."
Buchanon says he found a police officer nearby the house where he dropped Agee off and told him what happened. Shortly after, police arrested him.
We don't know the child's condition, but police say the injuries appeared serious at the scene.
Agee is from Scott County. We checked the jail there and found Agee was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol in 2009.
