Driver hurt when flying debris shatters windshield on I-75

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A driver ended up with injuries after an unusual accident on the interstate.

The man told police he was driving along I-75, near the Athens-Boonesboro overpass in Fayette County, when something struck his windshield. Part of the windshield shattered, sending glass flying into the car. The driver, Anthony Northern of Berea, suffered minor injuries as a result.

The driver thought something may have fallen from the bridge, but police think a reflector from the roadway likely flew up and hit the man's windshield. Investigators are trying to figure out how the reflector came loose from the roadway.

Highway department officials say the reflectors, firmly fastened into the roads surface can sometimes shake loose with all the wear and tear from weather and continuous car travel.

The Northern told police he was heading to work when the accident happened.
