Driver pulled from burning car in Lexington

A man was rushed to the hospital after a fiery crash in Lexington Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 3 p.m. On Montavesta Road between Lansdowne Drive and Dove Run Road.

Police tell us a driver of a car lost control and hit two parked SUVs. We're told the car caught on fire and the driver was trapped inside.

Two police officers were first on scene, we're told the officers used fire extinguishers from their patrol cars to keep the flames away from the driver. We're told several people who live near the crash scene also came to the driver's aide.

The 53-year-old man was eventually cut out of the car. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police tell us the fire department had to treat several people that helped the driver for smoke inhalation, a couple were taken to the hospital.

The fire department told us the station closest to the crash is closed for a 24 hour brownout, crews from the Shilito Park station had to respond. The fire department told us they received the call at 2:45 p.m. and arrived on scene at 2:52 p.m.

The police department says the driver may have crashed because of a medical issue.
