Driver takes out fire hydrant in Lexington crash

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Crews spent hours cleaning up a huge mess along New Circle Road early Monday morning, after a driver crashed into a fire hydrant and then fled.

Police say just before midnight the driver of a black Dodge Dakota ran off New Circle Road near Newtown Pike, hitting the hydrant, and then fled the scene.

Hundreds of gallons of water rushed out, flooding a nearby parking lot and the roadways.

The right lane was closed for about two hours.

Road crews brought in salt to treat the area.
