Traffic Alert: Highway to close for repairs Monday morning

Updated: Sun 11:47 PM, Jul 08, 2012

Everything from trucks, supplies, and signs are spaced out and ready to go for Monday morning at 9, when US 460 will be shut down in Scott County.

"It's going to block us a lot, having to go out of our way for appointments," expects Cathy Rossi, who lives off US 460.

A mile-and-a-half stretch from US 227 to Craig Lane will be getting a 10-day makeover, where a curve will be straightened out. With all of the work that will need to be done, all traffic will be diverted off the highway and drivers, like Rossi, will have to find a new way around.

"That's going to have a huge impact. Everywhere we go we're going to have to allow more time I guess."

"It'll put us about ten minutes extra each time we go out somewhere," added Brian Scott, who also lives off US 460, "enough to make things a little bit of a headache sometimes."

Still, these residents know this stretch of the highway is pretty dangerous.

"There have been a lot of wrecks on this curve that they're correcting," described Rossi.

"People really just didn't pay attention to what they're doing, coming down the road and sliding in the curve and into the cliff," said Scott.

While the closure will cause some troubles for drivers, these residents know a safer highway will be worth it.

"For the short term it's going to be a little bit of an inconvenience, but for the long term I think it'll be a better road for everyone," stated Scott.

Traffic will be detoured onto Ironworks Pike. The highway is expected to reopen the morning of July 19th.
