MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Officials say a drug task force in northeastern Kentucky will dissolve by the end of June.

Mason County Sheriff Patrick Boggs told The Ledger-Independent that the Buffalo Trace/Gateway Narcotics Task Force's board of directors made the decision Wednesday during a meeting.

Boggs, who is the board's chairman, said the decision stems from the loss of two federal grants at the end of the fiscal year. The grants covered the cost of operations including salaries, equipment and training. He said the agency needs about $200,000 in operating expenses annually.

He said the jobs of the interim director and two agents would be eliminated on March 30, and a part-time employee would remain through June 30 to finish paperwork, pay bills and settle assets.
