LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Dunbar baseball player has been injured while vacationing in Florida.

Captain John Brinkerhoff of the Okaloosa Island Fire Department tells WKYT that an 18-year-old male from Kentucky who was on spring break with the baseball team was injured Tuesday afternoon.

Brinkerhoff says that around 1:15pm the student dove into the water and apparently misjudged the depth, hitting the sand below head-first.

He was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. Brinkerhoff said that when he left the island he appeared to be paralyzed.

We spoke with a spokesperson with Fayette County Schools who confirms that a Dunbar High School baseball player was injured in Florida, and that the injury is not related to baseball. They have no more information on his condition at this time.
