EKU begins search for next president

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - Eastern Kentucky University has begun its search for a new president.

Gary Abney, who is chairman of the school's board of regents, said the panel will be soon naming a search committee that will be responsible for screening applicants. He said regents are also in the process of hiring a search firm to aid in the process.

Current President Doug Whitlock announced in August that he plans to retire next July.

Abney said after the committee is selected and the search firm hired, the board will hold several public forums with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community leaders to gain "a clear outline of what we wish this university to become over the next decade."
