WHITESBURG, Ky. (AP) - Forget complicated vote recounts. A tie in a city council race in eastern Kentucky was settled the easy way, with a coin toss.

The Mountain Eagle says Whitesburg candidate Tom Sexton won the race Thursday after calling tails while the coin was in the air.

Sexton and Matthew Thomas Butler had each received 282 votes Tuesday for a seat on the Whitesburg City Council.

Letcher Court Clerk Winston Meade oversaw the coin toss in his office.
