Eastern Ky. Coca-Cola plant expanding

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) - A Coca-Cola plant and warehouse in southeastern Kentucky is expanding, with a company official saying more room is necessary to accommodate growing sales.

The plant in Middlesboro will grow by about 24,000 square feet. Regional Sales Manager Bobby Abbott told The Daily News the company needs a place to put more items and new equipment.

Abbott said the company sold a million plus cases of Cumberland Gap water last year, making shipments from Florida to Michigan along the way. Abbott says the water takes up half of the current warehouse and continues to grow.

Work on the expansion has already started. Abbott hopes construction will be done by June or July.

The company had discussed an expansion about five or six years ago, but decided not to expand then.
