Eastern Ky. woman sentenced in drug overdose death

LONDON, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky woman has been sentenced to more than 27 years for illegally providing prescription painkillers to a woman who died of an overdose.

The U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District of Kentucky says 48-year-old Judy McIntosh of Jackson supplied oxycodone pills on Oct. 2, 2010, to a 19-year-old woman who took the pills and later died at McIntosh's home.

McIntosh pleaded guilty in March to distribution of oxycodone resulting in death and to conspiring with others to distribute oxycodone in Lee and Breathitt counties in 2010 and 2011.

U.S. District Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove sentenced McIntosh on Wednesday to 327 months.

Prosecutors said it's the first sentence in the 67-county district for a defendant who caused a death by distributing prescription medication.
