LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Fayette County Emergency Management officials are warning the community of possible severe weather later this evening. They want to warn those in the community to be proactive and pay close attention to the changing weather.

"When you think of January you usually don't think of tornadoes," explains Pat Dugger, with Fayette County Emergency Management, "but we're in a situation where people need to pay attention to the changing weather cause there is potential for such activity."

Dugger explains how Lexington is on a line, "the I-75 corridor is really the dividing point so all of Central Kentucky needs to be aware of the kind of weather margins we're looking at on the radar. You never know if it's going to be a little north or a little south," explains Dugger, "so I think not knowing exactly where it's going to be its potential threat, should really heighten everyone's awareness."

With the one year anniversary of the deadly March tornadoes just two months away, Dugger along with other officials want to urge folks in Lexington as well as neighboring counties to be play it safe. "Its the high winds and the potential with these fronts. The risk is a slight risk, but we all know there is still a risk."
