Moped driver injured after crash involving box truck in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police and emergency crews are on the scene of a serious crash on a busy road.

It happened around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon on Georgetown Road, near New Circle Road.

The driver of the box truck tells us he was stopped at a light and felt something. A driver nearby told him she could see a man lying underneath. Luckily, she's an EMT, and rushed to the moped driver's side. They say he was moving, but wasn't conscious.

It took emergency crews several minutes to free the driver. Firefighters had to use airbags to lift the truck off of him. He was taken to UK Hospital with serious injuries. We're told he was speaking and conscious at the time of transport.

Outbound Georgetown Road is currently closed from outbound New Circle to Mercer Road, but should reopen soon.
