CORBIN, Ky. (AP) - The discovery of an overturned kayak on Lynn Camp Creek in southern Kentucky prompted a search for the boat's owner, who turned up safe on shore.
Woodbine Fire/Search and Rescue squad member James Ridener told The Times-Tribune that the kayak was discovered Sunday where Lynn Camp Creek runs into Laurel Lake near the Corbin city dam.
Ridener says a dry box inside the kayak that contained a cellphone. Around 6 p.m., the cellphone rang and rescuers learned that four people had been kayaking along Lynn Camp Creek. Ridener says when one of the boats overturned, the woman inside was able to safely swim to shore.
Ridener says the search effort lasted about a half hour and no emergency responders were injured.
