HARDINSBURG, Ky. (AP) - Police have located a dangerous inmate who escaped from custody by overpowering a county jail guard in central Kentucky earlier this week.
WDRB-TV in Louisville reports (http://bit.ly/RyxQbC ) 41-year-old Robert Waddell, who fled Thursday night, was in police custody Saturday afternoon.
He was found at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Breckinridge County in the North Fork Community, close to Rough River Lake. A store employee recognized him and called police.
Waddell had been serving a sentence for rape. Police say he escaped while being transported back to the Breckinridge County Jail by poking a deputy with a sharp object and taking control of the jail vehicle. He drove the deputy several miles before dumping him in a rural area, stealing his shoes and driving off with the vehicle.
