Ex-treasurer finishes 8th in poker tourney

Updated: Mon 5:16 AM, Jul 09, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Former Kentucky state treasurer Jonathan Miller finished eighth overall in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that Miller walked away with $69,896 in winnings.

Miller, a Lexington lawyer, was one of nine players left in a no-Limit Hold 'em tournament that started with 4,620 players.

Miller told the newspaper that he's been an amateur poker player for six or seven years. He says that playing in the World Series of Poker was a goal he deferred while in public office.

Miller says he plans to give part of his prize money to his temple and that a good portion of the rest will probably go into his daughters' college funds.
