OWENSBORO, Ky. (WKYT/Lexington Herald-Leader) - A drug being used to treat two Americans diagnosed with the Ebola virus is being manufactured in Kentucky.
According to our news partners at the Lexington Herald Leader, the experimental serum was manufactured from genetically modified tobacco plants that were infected with a potentially life-saving protein.
The drug has never been tested on humans, but researchers say trials in primates were promising.
The drug has been given to the two US aid workers infected in Africa.
Doctors say they've shown significant improvement since being diagnosed.
