Police say an eye doctor was driving while intoxicated. They arrested her just minutes after she got off work, but she tells WKYT she was not drunk on the job.
WKYT caught up with Dr. Caroline Hendy outside her EyeDeal EyeCare office in London Monday morning.
"I'm actually on my way to see my lawyer right now. I have a meeting with her," explained Dr. Hendy to WKYT.
London police pulled Dr. Hendy over on KY 192. The citation claims she didn't use her turn signal to turn right onto I-75. Police say when they pulled her over, her speech was slurred, and they smelled alcohol. The citation goes on to state Dr. Hendy failed field sobriety tests, and blew a .132 - nearly twice the legal limit.
"I think I was set up as well. It's between me and my lawyer right now. We're pulling phone records and finding out," said Dr. Hendy, "there's been a few disgruntled employees as well, that were fired. So I believe that's part of it."
Dr. Hendy told police she had one drink at 1 p.m. Office workers told WKYT she left EyeDeal EyeCare at 5:30 p.m. the day of the arrest. The citation shows police pulled her over at 5:36 p.m. They were less than one mile from her office.
Police charged the optometrist with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, and for failure to use a proper signal.
