MT. STERLING, Ky. (WKYT) - People across the nation will have a chance to learn about a Kentucky soldier killed in Afghanistan. Pfc. Dustin Gross, who was from Montgomery County, will be featured on Nancy Grace's show on HLN.
The show will air September 27th and is part of Grace's Fallen Heroes segment. Tracy Brown contacted the show to ask them about featuring her nephew.
"Within a few days they contacted us back and asked us for a picture and what medals he received, we just don't want anyone to forget him," Brown said.
Operation Dustin Gross has been one of the ways Dustin's family has worked to remember him. They've sent hundreds of care packages to soldiers serving in Afghanistan. The latest shipment will be sent out later this year, around the holidays.
Dustin's mother, aunt, grandfather and cousins just got back from North Carolina, where they met his unit as it returned from Afghanistan.
"It was a bittersweet experience because we didn't see him get off that plane," Brown said.
The unit has become an extended family, sharing stories about Dustin's time in the service with his relatives.
Supplies for care packages are still being collected. Anyone wishing to donate can contact the Montgomery County High School JROTC.
