JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - People living in twelves homes that were evacuated as a precaution on Monday, were allowed to return home on Tuesday. Emergency crews cleaned up the remnants of a chemical leak and cleared the scene on Industry Parkway in Nicholasville around four Tuesday morning.

"There was a yellowish looking smoke coming out of the building," explains Murad Hassan, who works nearby, "then all of the sudden there were fire trucks and police cars everywhere. They wouldn't let anyone drive up or down the street."

Officials say a tank holding approximately 2,400 gallons of nitric acid leaked inside the Aulick Chemical Solutions, Inc. on Monday. Officials say the chemical started to leak into the air, creating some concern about of the safety of those living in a nearby neighborhood. Emergency crews from across the region responded.

"There was a response from approximately 10-12 counties together with the Bluegrass Emergency Response team, with state officials. This response had the better part of central Kentucky here," said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Baker with the Nicholasville Fire Department.

All residents were allowed back home early Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, Aulick Chemical Solutions is expected to be closed most of the day Tuesday.

There were no injuries or illnesses reported as a result of the leak.

"I'm grateful they were proactive," explains Hassan, " I have three kids and a wife, my health and my life is the number one priority. I am glad they took it so seriously."
