Families stunned over loved ones lost in Knox fire

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Relatives say Nina Asher devoted her life to her family, especially her kids.

"I loved her so much. I just can't believe it," said Jeanette Asher, Nina's grandmother.

The young mother who was three months pregnant, her three children all under the age of three, and her fiance, Jesse Disney all died in the Saturday morning fire.

Two children staying the night, Briella and Peyton Cox also died.

Autopsies have yet to be done, but relatives say they've been told that smoke inhalation will most likely be the official cause of death.

"I miss them so much. They were such pretty little kids," said Asher.

Jeanette Asher says she once cared for her granddaughter...and marveled at her great-grandchildren.

"She stopped here to show me her little girl. I said what a lovely little girl," said Asher.

They just can't understand why four members of one family, including such small children, are now gone.

"I'm 71 years old. And I outlived those young-'uns? I can't hardly take it," said Asher.

Disney's brother says the home did have smoke detectors but he's not sure if they were working at the time of the fire.
