KNOX COUNTY, Ky. - We’re learning new information about a family killed after fire ripped through their southern Kentucky home.
Firefighters were called to Shady Brook Lane in the Gray Community of Knox County just after nine Saturday morning.
Inside the home, fire crews found the bodies of five children and two adults.
Family members tell us Jessie Disney his pregnant girlfriend, Nina Asher, were both killed in the fire along with Nina’s three children.
“Nina was lying right at the door and Jessie was laying about 20 feet away from the door where he had headed back in to get the kids.”
Two other kids who were staying the night at their home also died.
“Jessie really thought the world of those kids; he stayed with them, played with them. He never let them out of his sight,” said Jessie’s uncle, Ray Disney.
The couple moved into the home about two months ago and had been working on renovating it to fit their growing family.
The couple’s family members are still in shock.
They say it's hard to come to terms with something so tragic.
For now, all they can do is be there for one another during this time of unimaginable grief.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
The names of the five children who were killed have not been released.
Arson investigators are on the scene but we're told they do not suspect foul play.
