Family forced from home by fire

Posted: Fri 8:05 AM, Jun 01, 2012

A family is forced from their home overnight after a house fire.

It broke out late Thursday night in Georgetown on Dawning Court, near Lemons Mill Road. Investigators say they believe the fire started outside before spreading to the garage. The garage was destroyed, the rest of the house suffered smoke and water damage.

The homeowner says three people were inside, but it was his neighbor who spotted the flames.

Crews from Georgetown, Scott and Fayette Counties responded to the fire, because a rescue operation also in Scott County tied up the city's resources. In that accident, a worker died after a trench collapsed on him.
