Fans keep eyes on storm and team

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Tornado Watch was issued for much of Southwestern, Central, and even into Eastern Kentucky today. However, that didn't stop fans from cheering on their Wildcats.

Fans packed local restaurants and bars as they rooted on their team. Many restaurant managers had at least one television tuned into the news or had a weather radio on. "It's better to be safe than sorry," explained one Ali Hammond, "however, I'm not too concerned. If anything happens I know I'm inside and in a safe place."

Other fans, like Cassidy Twyman, had alerts on her telephone to warn her of any dangers. "I am not too worried, I'm more worried about my Wildcats losing. I have a weather app on my phone so if anything happens it gives me an alert."

"Any time you're under a tornado watch it just means the conditions are favorable for tornadoes or any type of severe weather," explains WKYT Meteorologist Kari Hall. "There was that situation several years ago were fans in a stadium were completely unaware of the weather situation outside. They were really put in some grave danger with the tornado moving across Atlanta. This is one of those days where you just need to have one eye on the game one eye on the weather and make sure that you are staying safe."

The tornado watch has been dropped.

The following counties were advised while the tornado watch was active:
ADAIR ALLEN ANDERSON
BARREN BATH BOURBON
BOYLE CASEY CLARK
