Father calls 911 after shooting daughter's boyfriend

CORBIN, Ky. (WKYT) - A Corbin man called 911 after police say he shot his daughter's boyfriend on Monday afternoon.

At 12:20 p.m. a 911 dispatcher received a call from Cox outside his home.

"What's going on?" asked the dispatcher. "I just shot a guy," said Bill Cox. "You just shot a guy? What did you shoot him for?" replied the dispatcher. "He sure was threatening to kill me," explained Cox.

Bill Cox lived with his 15-year-old daughter, his grandchild, and his daughter's boyfriend, Ryan Abner. Police say that Cox told them that Abner had been physically abusive to his daughter.

In the 911 call, Cox said, "he's been hitting my daughter. He said he's gonna kill my daughter. He's been hitting her, beating her up. And I just got tired of it."

You can also hear Cox's daughter, screaming in the background during the 911 call.

"What did you do to my husband? You killed him, You killed him. You killed him. I hate you. He never touched me. He never touched me. I hate you," Cox's daughter yelled in the call.

Cox is currently at the Whitley County Detention Center, where he's charged with murder and two counts of wanton endangerment.
