Father, children found safe in Laurel County

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police say this situation turned out as well as it could have. Michael Mann and his two children were found safe and are back Indiana.

Kristin Mann didn't have much to say to the media as she walked into the State Police post in London to pick up her children, 5-year-old Macy and 3-year-old Madden. Police say they discovered them walking with their father, Michael Mann early this morning along I-75 in Laurel County. Several people called 911 to report seeing them along the highway.

"I saw on the news in Louisville about a man and two children that were missing...There's a man and two small children dressed in camouflage on the south side of I-75 about the 49 mile marker," said one caller.

"I just passed a pedestrian walking down the shoulder looking like he's got children kind of covered in like a poncho or a tarp," said another.

Kristin Mann's father, Dennis Borden, is thankful they've all been found.

"I really did worry. I thought that something bad could happen to the two of them," said Borden.

Kentucky State Police won't charge Mann with any crimes, saying he was suffering from mental health issues and didn't have any criminal intentions.

"It ended extremely well. Anytime that you can find two children unharmed, it's just a really good day," said Trooper Lloyd Cochran.

Kristin Mann left with her children shortly before noon. Her father says he doesn't want Michael around the kids.

"I just want Michael to get better. I don't want Michael to face charges. Yesterday, I probably would have said different. I don't him to see the children ever again," said Borden.

Michael Mann's father said the family would take him to a mental health facility for treatment.
