LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT)- New information tonight about a father and daughter badly injured in a crash this week in Pulaski County, both are improving.
UK Hospital tells us 12-year-old Jaden Jasper has been upgraded to serious condition, while her father Jimmy is now in fair condition.
Both were injured Tuesday when their SUV hit a plank fence on Pumphouse Road in Somerset.
SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - It was 5:30 Tuesday and Jimmy Jasper and his 12 year old daughter, Jaden, were driving on Pumphouse Rd. when something caused their SUV to run off the road..and into and through a plank fence.
“He was impaled in the shoulder by one of the planks in the fence,” said Doug Miller, Jimmy’s brother-in-law, Jaden’s uncle.
Both Jimmy and Jaden also suffered numerous head injuries, with Jaden having some serious brain issues.
“This morning they have inserted a lumbar drain because she was having spinal fluid that was building up,” said Miller.
A lot of the damage done to the vehicle was because of the wooden planks, many of which literally pierced the car.
Several went through the windshield, one even came up through the floor area of the car.
“Just as the gentleman (from the towing company) was saying, it’s the first time he’s ever seen a wood plank go through a firewall like that into the interior of the car,” said Miller.
Jaden is a 7th grader at Northern Middle School. Her uncle says she is a straight A student.
“She always has a smile, is always athletic, wants to be involved in anything and everything whether at school or at church,” said Miller.
Her friends Jaycee and Jaylee Phillippi started a “Prayers for Jaden” Facebook page.
“There were 100’s of posts on it, saying we’re praying for her. Help her out and stuff,” said Jaylee.
And as another sign of support, her friends are asking classmates to wear pink to school on Thursday..Jaden’s favorite color.
