Facilities plan approved for Fayette County Schools

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It looks like some new schools are on the way for Fayette County, including a new high school.

Monday night, the Fayette County Board of Education approved a district facilities plan, which calls for seven new schools to be built over the next four years.

One of those schools will be a high school for 1,800 students.

"The main reason we're doing the new buildings is because of the growth in our district. We've grown over 5,000 students in the last seven years. And that growth is expected to continue. Our high schools have become overcrowded, and so the new high school will relieve that overcrowding," Superintendent Tom Shelton told WKYT.

A site has not yet been determined for the new high school. the plan also calls for a new middle school, three new elementary schools, and some new learning centers.
