Federal investigators sift through debris of chopper crash

BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky (WKYT) - Federal investigators arrived in Breathitt County Tuesday to find out why a drug enforcement agency helicopter crashed. The crash happened Monday morning in the Evanston community of Breathitt County, near the Magoffin County line. The pilot and state trooper on board were searching for drugs when it went down.

Investigators took pictures and looked at the debris Tuesday. They have yet to release a cause for the crash. The DEA is working with the FAA and the NTSB to learn more about it.

"We just come out and do a preliminary investigation. Just look at everything. We look at the pilot and the machine and the environment and see what we can determine, what happened basically," explained Chuck Holsclaw with the FAA, "if it's an aircraft accident in Kentucky we usually always come."

We're told both men are still in the hospital, but are expected to make a full recovery. Their names are not being released.
