Feds settle lawsuit against Ky. abortion foe

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Department of Justice says it has settled a lawsuit against a protester who grabbed and pushed a volunteer outside a Louisville abortion clinic.

The department announced Friday that David Hamilton agreed to pay $2,500 in compensatory damages to a volunteer who was escorting a patient into the EMW Women's Surgical Center three years ago. The United States had filed a lawsuit against Hamilton for his alleged violation of the FACE Act, which makes it illegal to interfere with patients and providers of reproductive health services, saying he grabbed and pushed the volunteer.

The justice department described Hamilton, formerly of Louisville, as a regular protester at the center. It said once he pays the damages, the lawsuit will be dismissed.
