Fellow runners react to pedestrian's death

Updated: Mon 7:32 PM, Dec 10, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The sadness of the deadly accident Saturday evening in Lexington is being felt in Lauren Roady's home of Washington, D.C.

"I mean, it's terrible. My heart goes out to her family and to the whole running community, really," said Megan Nally.

Roady was killed Saturday night at a busy intersection in the heart of downtown Lexington. Police say she was crossing North Broadway at Main Street as a Lexington fire truck was turning through the intersection. Fire officials said witnesses told them Roady may have walked into the side of the truck.

As the investigation continues, police are hoping to get some help from the public. They want anyone who saw the accident to give them a call so their Collision Reconstruction Unit can gather more information.

Roady worked as an attorney at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Their general counsel released a statement today, praising her work ethic and personality, and extending sympathies to Roady's family.

Roady was a member of the Georgetown Running Company in the Washington, D.C. area and was in town for a running competition this weekend. She'd just completed a race hours earlier. Fellow runners said the tragedy had touched those who didn't even know her.

"Not very many of us in the store actually knew Lauren, but we're all very sad at what happened," said Matt Charny.
