LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A home is destroyed after an early morning fire.
A passer-by called 911 around three Wednesday morning, reporting flames shooting out of the home at the end of Conley street. When firefighters got there, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
A fire major on the scene tells WKYT that they immediately realized this was going to be a defensive effort, to keep the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
Jeffery Richard's home backs up to the burned house. "It was just inches from my house. The tip of the flames were just inches from my house," Richard said.
Crews with the power company and gas company have come out to check the home over. A fire investigator is also looking into the cause.
This is the third house fire that firefighters have battled here on Lexington's east end in a week's time. The previous two were ruled arson, but investigators say it is too early to identify the origin of this fire.
