Fire that damaged Paris home investigated as arson

PARIS, Ky. (WKYT) - A fire that heavily damaged a home is being investigated as arson.

Firefighters in Paris were called to a home on Massie Avenue between 6:30 and 7:00 on Wednesday morning. They found smoke and flames coming from the home.

The battalion chief for the Paris Fire Department tells WKYT that the woman who lives in the home was being evicted, and that no one was inside at the time of the fire.

"When the crews were inside fighting the fire, it had burnt through one of the rooms in the floor, through the floor itself. That in turn made it look to be a suspicious fire at that point in time, whenever it's started in the middle of the room," said Paris Fire Department Batt. Chief Michael Duffy.

According to fire officials, they were able to find the origin of the fire and the cause is suspicious. The arson dog with the Georgetown Fire Department is being called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
