Firefighters escort comrade's body home to McCreary County

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A mother and volunteer firefighter made her final ride home Friday afternoon, with the help of fellow firefighters.

Several different departments helped escort LaDonna Hurd's body from UK Hospital to McCreary County. Hurd died Wednesday, one week after falling and hitting her head while roller skating with her children. Emergency crews transported the 37-year-old to UK Hospital, where she later died.

We're told 15 different departments helped escort Hurd's body home.

Hurd was a member of the Bronston and Burnside Volunteer Fire Departments. She worked as a health care nurse, and was often needed on emergency calls the fire crews would respond to.

Friends and fellow firefighters are helping raise money for Hurd's family.

"It's just to benefit them. To help them with any day to day expenses. Whatever they need it for," explained Robert Mounce with the Bronston Fire Department.

Hurd's visitation is Monday evening at Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
