Firefighters find marijuana growing in burning home

Firefighters found more than smoke when they responded to a house fire Friday afternoon. The fire broke out just before noon on Weber Way near Clays Mill Road.

No one was injured in the fire, but once inside firefighters noticed something suspicious. Lexington Police tell WKYT fire crews discovered several marijuana plants in the home. Investigators got a search warrant before they confiscated the marijuana plants and other growing equipment. Firefighters say a light used in that operation sparked the fire.

Neighbors told WKYT, they're surprised.

"That's a bit of a shock, yes. I had no idea he had anything like that going on here," said neighbor Paul Cesiro.

Lexington police later arrested Michael Carmen, who lives in the home. He's charged with cultivating and trafficking marijuana.
