Firefighters head to Lexington for training

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Fire safety, equipment, drills and other topics will be discussed during classroom instruction for firefighters statewide beginning Friday.

More than 1,000 firefighters and first responders from around Kentucky are expected to attend the 27th annual Bryant Stiles Officers School through Sunday at the Lexington Convention Center. More than 30 courses will be offered on subjects including traffic incident management, school bus extrication and heavy cargo rescue problems.

Kentucky Fire Commission Executive Director Ronnie Day says training is a continuing effort for firefighters, who must be prepared for fire emergencies as well as other specialized rescues.
