JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- An investigation is underway into a fire that damaged a home late Wednesday night.
The fire broke out on Chrisman Mill Road, just outside of Nicholasville. It started around 10 PM.
We're told the family arrived home to find part of their house on fire. A portion of the home was actually built in 1798.
When firefighters arrived, they said flames were shooting out the side of the home.
The owner of the home, a well-known dentist in the area, said that her family had been working to fix up the house for years. We caught up with the owner of the home, who said that she was at a funeral when the fire started.
She said a friend who was staying at the home got out safely, and helped save family pets.
The fire caused extensive damage to the home. Firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused the fire, but at this point, they say it appears to be accidental. They said that because of the home's age, it was difficult to fight the fire.
