LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A two-alarm fire, in Lexington, has damaged two homes on Stonecase Drive and sent two fire fighters to the hospital.

According to the Lexington Fire Department, the fire fighters were making entry inside the two homes, after the wind pushed the fire from one house to another. They say once inside, the fire fighters experienced a "flashover." One of the fire fighters had severe burns around the facemask, several others had minor burns. Another fire fighter was rushed to the hospital after it's said he fell down a set of steps, and they believe he may have a broken rib. Both of those fire fighters are being evaluated.

The Fire Department said what made this fire so challenging is both homes were so close to one another.

"It's extremely challenging because not only do you have the additional fire load to deal with, but you also have to make sure you keep close coordination amongst all of the operations going on in both structures at the same time, especially since they are so close to each other," described Major C.J. Haunz.

Several witnesses say they believe the fire started in the corner house, in the garage area, before spreading to the neighboring home. They did see the family inside the second house get out safely.

The Fire Department says this has been a busy day. They had another fire call out while they were on the scene of this one, and this say that makes the sixth fire they've had to fight today.

In spite of the multiple fire calls, the Fire Department says the first crew was on the scene at Stonecase within six minutes.
