First lady starts Literacy Week at WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's first lady will kick off a week of literacy-themed events at Western Kentucky University.

Jane Beshear will begin her visit to the Bowling Green school Monday morning. She will visit two literacy classes and will discuss the value of reading quality literature as well how reading affects college readiness.

She then is expected to visit the Housing Authority of Bowling Green where she will get a tour of a learning center and discuss how to incorporate literacy growth in the after-school program.
