Former Bardstown teacher accused of rape won't spend time in prison

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - We've learned a former Bardstown teacher accused of having sex with a student has agreed to a plea deal.

Court officials say Matthew Bowling pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of rape. In exchange, he was given a three year sentence which was probated to five years. That means he won't spend any time in prison unless he violates his probation.

Bowling has voluntarily surrendered his teaching license. He used to teach at Bethlehem High School.
