Updated: Wed 2:20 PM, Feb 20, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)-Former Lexington Police Chief Anthany Beatty says he is considering a mayoral run.

He retired from the police department in 2008 after a 32 year career; eight of which he was chief. since then, Beatty has been working at the University of Kentucky as a Vice President of Campus Services.

He says while he enjoys his position at UK, in the last year many people have asked him to make a run.

"Supporters have asked--seriously asked---us to consider making a run," Beatty explained while sitting in a small conference room at WKYT-TV. "I have to honor that request and at least do due diligence in conssidering the opportunity."

Beatty says he and his wife, Eunice, are not working on a timeline to make a decision. But he says he'd make an announcement soon.

Beatty would go up against incumbent Mayor Jim Gray who announced in November he's run for office again.
