Former owner of Louisville day care indicted

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The former owner of a Louisville day care center whose van was involved in a deadly crash has been indicted on theft and fraud charges.

A Jefferson County grand jury returned two indictments against Levonia Lewars on Thursday.

WAVE-TV reports (http://bit.ly/QdCcoZ ) Lewars is facing one count of a fraudulent scheme or plan to obtain fraudulent benefits over $10,000, and one count of theft by deception over $10,000.

The June 12 crash involving a van from Heavenly Angels Childcare Center killed one woman and injured the driver and 14 children.

Lewars shut down the three locations of Heavenly Angels after the crash.

Police have said a blown tire may have contributed to the wreck.
