Founder of Whitaker Bank dies

LESLIE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Elmer Whitaker, the founder and president of Whitaker Bank, died Sunday.

Our partners at the Herald-Leader said Whitaker, 85, died due to complications from diabetes. He was from Leslie County.

He bought stake in an eastern Kentucky mine years ago, and then turned it into Whitaker Coal corporation.

In 2011, his bank bought the naming rights for Whitaker Bank ballpark, home of the Lexington Legends.

His funeral arrangements are still being worked out.
