A violent crash sent four people to the hospital and shutdown a busy road Sunday night. It happened around 6:45 on Winchester Road between Walton Avenue and Midland. The crash was so bad it sent one of the cars flying into a building.
Police say before the white Buick crossed the center line crashing first into an oncoming car, then a building, it was already getting a lot of attention. "We did have several people that called in that white car coming inbound on Winchester Road at a high rate of speed," Lexington Police Lt. Chris Van Brackel said.
Alex Buley was working nearby when he and some co-workers say they saw the car speeding, "We were all standing outside talking, and the guy in the white car over here was going 90 miles an hour down the road," Buley said "and we knew something was up, and we heard this big boom."
Police say they do suspect alcohol and drugs played a role in the crash. The driver and passenger in the Buick were taken to UK with serious head injuries. The two people in the front seat of the blue car were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and two people in the backseat of the blue car remained at the scene uninjured. Police shut down Winchester Road while collision reconstruction teams investigated. "Certainly anyone else who saw this car and didn't call, we'd like to call the police department and give us that information, so we can put together his path of travel leading up to the crash," Lt. Van Brackel said.
