A Flood Watch and a Winter Storm Watch are out for the entire region late Tuesday through early Thursday. Heavy rain develops Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and may put down 1”-3” in some areas. Arctic air pushes in from west to east on Wednesday with heavy sleet and snow taking over. That setup could produce several inches of accumulation. Snow will slowly end from west to east Thursday as bitterly cold air continues to push in.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A Lexington poet, author and teacher has been named poet laureate for Kentucky for 2013-2014.
Gov. Steve Beshear appointed Frank X Walker to the post. The Kentucky Arts Council says he is the state's first African-American poet laureate as well as the youngest at age 51.
Walker will be formally inducted on Kentucky Writer's Day, which is celebrated April 24 at the Capitol Rotunda.
The Kentucky Arts Council says Walker is a Danville native and author of five poetry collections.
He is associate professor in the University of Kentucky Department of English and is director of the African American and Africana Studies program.
The Kentucky poet laureate promotes the literary arts in Kentucky through readings of his work at meetings, seminars and conferences across the state.
Walker succeeds Maureen Morehead.
