FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office arrested five people as a result of an ongoing investigation into heroin trafficking.
Deputies executed a search warrant at 104 Shelby Street in Frankfort. Once inside, deputies found a substantial amount of heroin, cocaine, and oxycodone.
"This is probably the largest heroin bust that I'm aware of in the county. I don't know of any bigger than this as far as heroin and cocaine," said Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton.
They also found three firearms and other illegal drugs.
"Over an ounce of heroin, almost two and a half ounces of powder cocaine, and between 500 and 600 pills," said Sheriff Melton.
Dylan Hurst, 22, was arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking controlled substance first degree and one count of trafficking controlled substance second degree. Also charged were Kayla Hyatt, 22, Chanta Whiteford, 22, Deshawn Barnett, 22, all of Frankfort and Casey Tabor, 19, of Lexington. The sheriff says these five people are only part of the puzzle, connecting Franklin County to Detroit.
Selling drugs and bringing more into his county is something the sheriff will not allow on his time.
"If you're going to deal drugs here, expect a knock on your door from the sheriff's office," said Sheriff Melton. "We're coming for you. We're not going to tolerate you dealing that poison on the streets to our children."
Additional arrests and criminal charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
