Franklin Co. investigators search for suspect in burglary spree

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - A central Kentucky sheriff's office needs your help to identify a serial burglar who was caught by a hidden camera.

Joe Hancock has had run-ins with thieves twice in the past few months. Now, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who stole Christmas presents out of Hancock's house Friday night.

"It's not about the belongings. Belongings can be replaced. It's the thought that I've got two small children. My wife walking in on an intruder and you just never know what will happen at that point. You don't know whether they'll run or whether they'll want to get physical," said Joe Hancock.

Hancock installed a video system on his house after earlier run-ins with kids.

"It gave my wife peace of mind to know that she could turn the TV on and see what was going on outside those doors," said Hancock.

That camera captured this video of a man forcing his way into the house. Something apparently startled the man. When deputies arrived later, they discovered the presents ditched near a creek not far from the house. Hancock says he's now installing a full security alarm system.

"Believe me, the house is locked up tight now. We've got a bigger security system in the works," said Hancock.

They're going to have to pay attention because I'm not going to make it easy on them, that's for sure.

Investigators believe the culprit is connected to a white Chevy Tahoe with dark colored caps in the middle of the tires.
