LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The icy weather that moved through is likely behind scattered power outages throughout the area.

Officials in Lincoln county say an outage there was likely caused by an equipment failure at the Highland Substation. In all 2,800 Inter-County Energy members were left without power. Crews in southern Lincoln county were working to determine if those customers effected could be switched to a different substation.

The outage happened at the same time most of the area was dealing with freezing rain. While officials say weather was not necessarily to blame for the loss of power, they do have some ice on the lines throughout Lincoln and Garrard County.

Areas affect by this outage include Ottenhiem, Broughtontown, Crab Orchard, Highland, Waynesburg, and the Green River section of Lincoln County.

Dispatchers tell WKYT that crews are heading out to the problem area. They are not sure what actually caused the outage, but say they do have some ice on the lines throughout Lincoln and Garrard County.

Also, more than a dozen customers in Falmouth started the morning without power. Blue Grass Energy has a crew dispatched to that area and power was restored by 7:45 a.m.

Kentucky Utilities is also working to get the power back on to a handful of people in Boyle County.

According to the Kentucky Power website, 384 customers are without power in Letcher County, 907 in Pike County, and another 171 in Carter County.
