LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It started as a meeting between three people in the parking lot of the Northpoint Lexington Healthcare Center, on Trent Boulevard, but police say shots were fired and one man was killed.

"They were meeting to have a discussion, the discussion didn't go so well," explained Lt. Scott Blakely.

Investigators say it happened around 2:30 p.m. and one of the three people worked at the nursing home. The victim, a 31-year-old man, was pronounced dead shortly after.

Just down the street, Corey Dunn was working with a group of kids in an after school program. He started receiving texts and calls making sure they were safe.

"I was concerned because I had to pick some of the students up on Trent," recalled Dunn, who added the shooting hit way too close to where he and the children were.

"It's time for a change."

What he was about to learn, is that the crime would hit him even closer.

"While we're doing something positive, somebody that I've known all my life, since we were five or six-years-old gets killed."

Dunn said learning of his childhood friend's death hit him hard.

"I don't know how to feel right now," described Dunn, adding, "Regardless of what the reasoning was behind it, I guarantee you he didn't deserve it. Nobody deserves to be shot."

Investigators have yet to release the victim's name, but Dunn said his friend was known for playing jokes. Even more, Dunn said his buddy was looking to join him in a program to help children.

"He said he liked the positive turn of events that we're doing in our lives, and he said he wanted to be a part of it. He wanted to be a part of something positive, and now he's gone."

The loss is a hard one to take, especially for Dunn whose daughter lost her friend Jaleel Raglin in another Lexington murder last week.

"I'm sick of it. It's like every single day it's like somebody's getting shot. Somebody's dying or losing their life and it's usually over some foolishness!"

Police say they do not have a description of the suspect, but continue to look into what lead up to the shooting. All officers have at this time, is a report of a black BMW 700 series that was seen leaving the area and reportedly driving recklessly. Investigators aren't able to tie the car to the crime, but say it is a lead they're looking at.
