A shooting spree in Breathitt County last night sends five people to the hospital.
Kentucky State Police say that the shooter is 59-year old, Danny Johnson.
"The first thing I thought was someone must have done something to Danny because Danny is really a good person. He is not the kind of person that would get out here and start trouble. He stays at home, " says friend, Jennifer Higgins.
Police say that Johnson fired several shots and injured at least five people. According to police, Brenda Southwood and Larry Adams were shot while traveling in their vehicle. Both shooting victims were treated and released from the hospital.
State trooper Charles King was struck in the face with buckshot. He is listed in good condition at the Kentucky River Medical Center.
Two deputies, Marvin Reed and Steve McIntosh received minor injuries during the shooting spree.
"I sat on the bed and I couldn't believe that he had shot at a law enforcement," adds Higgins.
Police say that Johnson was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"He's not going to stand trial here but he will face what he's done. And he's gone," Higgins says.
Higgins can't believe this happened because she describes Danny as a caring person, "I do know that he was a veteran. He told me that every time we went down there. He served his country and I just feel like it could have ended different."
